Julia's Bio
Individual psychology is a system of knowledge that can be practically applied in our daily lives. It transcends the differences of time and cultures. This belief has been affirmed in the subsequent publication of Chinese, Korean, and Japanese translations of my book, The Psychology of Courage after its English edition was published in New York, USA. The Taiwan Society of Adlerian Psychology (TSAP), which I founded, is now ten years old. With its devoted leaderships, TSAP has become a strong advocate promoting healthy individuals in family, school and work place. I have established dual-certification courses in Taiwan and the United States, including parent-teacher counseling, marriage and couple counseling, addiction counseling, book clubs and book club leaders, and life design counseling.
Adler's holistic view of “treating the whole person” has profoundly influenced my practices in counselor education and supervision, research and leadership for many decades. Back when I was pursuing my Master's degree in Counseling, I obtained a certificate in Touch for Health (based on the limited scientific findings at the time regarding how the left and right hemispheres interact as well as John Diamond’s theory of kinesiology). While pursuing a doctoral degree in counseling at Ohio State University, I took a required course in psychoanalysis. In addition to reading the original works of Freud, Jung, and Adler, I adventured to interrelate the structure of the brain to understand psychological anxiety and acquired the skills of the autonomic nervous system training originating from Germany.
After completing over thirty years of counselor education, I have been studying Food as Medicine and mind body medicine in trauma healing for over a decade. Founding DIAL and becoming a chapter of the North American Adlerian Psychology Society has enabled me to contribute my knowledge and skills as I travel between Taiwan and the United States, providing actionable self-care knowledge for mental and physical health to people of all ages, and fulfilling my social responsibilities and obligations on both sides of the Pacific.
